Trexler Park pond becomes a mud pit

ALLENTOWN, Pa. - A dam breach has drained the water from the pond in Trexler Park.

The city of Allentown said the pond is filled with water from Cedar Creek and the drain hole of the pond broke over the weekend and caused the pond water to drain back into the creek.

Some park visitors said they were disappointed to see the pond turn into a temporary mud pit.

"I've been coming here for years and I've never seen this," said Stafford Wavrek.

The city said they have contacted an engineering firm and a pond company to assess the structural integrity of the Trexler Park pond.

The pond is currently closed and Cedar Creek is naturally flowing around the backside of it.
