Trial dates set for Hickey, Acosta, Spencer

PHILADELPHIA - Preliminary trial dates have been set for three defendants in the pay-to-play cases that have rocked Allentown and Reading.

Prosecutors say they will need at least until March 2018 to begin trial for James Hickey, a business consultant, former Reading Mayor Vaughn Spencer, and former Reading School Board president Rebecca Acosta.

Court documents say prosecutors and defense attorneys will need until at least then to prepare for trial because of the complexity of the cases.

The cases involve multiple counts of conspiracy bribery and fraud.

Hickey, Spencer, and Acosta have all pleaded not guilty.
