Upper Saucon police look for man pretending to be officer

UPPER SAUCON TWP., Pa. - Police say someone is breaking the law in Lehigh County by pretending to be a police officer.

"I think it's absolutely ridiculous that somebody would do something like that.  The citizens trust the police and for someone to impersonate a police officer that's low.  That's really really low," said Nina Johnson.

Police said an impersonator has been spotted in Lower Saucon, Upper Saucon and South Whitehall townships.

69 News reported about an impersonator targeting women in those areas back in January.

Now police say this could be the same man, but they are working to confirm that.

"We're doing everything we can to share data across borders to see if we can help identify who this suspect is," said Detective Sgt. Thomas Nicoletti, Upper Saucon Police Department.

Tuesday night, around 11:30 p.m., a driver told police he was stopped on Landis Mill Road by the fake police officer.

Police said when he asked the impersonator for his name and badge number he ran back to his car and took off.

Police said the fake cop was driving an older model black Ford Crown Victoria with red and blue lights inside of the car.

He's a white man, middle-aged with a beard, about 6 feet tall and weighs between 200 to 215 pounds.

The man was wearing a black shirt with the word "Police" on the left chest area and on the back of the shirt.

Upper Saucon police say officers are required to contact the Lehigh County Communications Center via radio when stopping any vehicle. You may call them at 610-437-5252, or call 911, if you are being pulled over and want to confirm it is an Upper Saucon police officer
