Visitors celebrate at Dorney Park despite rainy weather

S. WHITEHALL TWP., Pa. - The rainy weather put a damper on some Memorial Day traditions, but there were some people who weren't letting anything spoil their plans.

Memorial Day is known as the unofficial start of summer, a day in the sun, but this year, the weather is dreary.

We could only find one family at Cedar Beach Park.

And the new pool in Palmer was closed.

There were a few people at Quakerwoods Campground.

"A bad day camping is better than a good day at work, anytime," said camper Donna Angeoucci.

"You're camping, you're gonna have your rain but your camping, you just make the best of it," said Bill Estep, another camper.

There were even more people at Dorney Park. Kids weren't letting the chilly weather stop their water park plans.

"It's not too cold at all? No," said one girl playing in the wave pool.

It was chilly, but not so cold that folks stayed away.

"Unfortunately the weather is not on our side this week, it's been a little cool and a little rainy but we still had a pretty good turnout," said Caitlin Stibitz, who works for Dorney Park.

Stibitz said they had more people show up on Saturday when the weather was nicer, but there was at least one good reason to go Monday - short lines for the rides.
