Wanted man allegedly flashes gun after traffic accident

Victim said the Indiana man did not make threats

ALLENTOWN, Pa. - An Indiana man wanted on trio of warrants allegedly flashed a handgun following a wreck last week after the other driver mentioned calling police.

Allentown police charged Anthony T. White, of Gary, Indiana, with illegal possession of a firearm and carrying a firearm without a license, following his arrest Thursday at Fulton and Tilghman streets. District Judge Michael Faulkner arraigned the 47-year-old later that night, setting bail at $100,000.

Police were dispatched to the area of Fulton and Tilghman streets shortly before 2:30 p.m. to investigate a report of a man with a weapon. When officers arrived, the victim pointed police to White and said he had a handgun, according to court records.

The victim told police that he had been in a wreck with White. While speaking with him about calling police for an accident report, White allegedly revealed a handgun and said he didn’t want to call authorities because he had outstanding warrants.

While White showed the handgun during the conversation, the victim told police that he had not made any threats.

Police said White admitted to having a handgun in his truck and that he was a convicted felon without a permit to carry a firearm. He allegedly told police that he found the gun that was loaded, but without a round in the chamber, according to records.

An officer recovered the Jimenez Arms .380 on the driver’s side floor; it was not listed as stolen, nor did it show an owner, police said.

A records check showed multiple out-of-state drug and assault convictions, according to police. Records also showed three out-of-state arrest warrants, but the criminal complaint indicates that the issuing departments would not extradite White.

After failing to post bail, White was sent to Lehigh County Jail. His preliminary hearing on the weapons charges is scheduled for Sept. 8.
