Woman accused of killing her grandfather heads to trial

ALLENTOWN,, Pa. - An Allentown woman accused of fatally stabbing her grandfather in March will face a jury.

A detective testified Tuesday that Chene Mejias said she returned to the home she shared with her grandfather, William Mejias, and her girlfriend on South 12th Street to find Mejias pleasuring himself in front of the door of a bathroom while her girlfriend was inside.

The detective said Mejias, 21, said she stabbed her grandfather until he stopped moving, aiming for his neck, she reportedly said, because she knew it would kill him.

Mejias then drove to her girlfriend's mom's home in the Bronx, New York, where she allegedly confessed to her and to police.

According to the Allentown detective on the stand, William Mejias' body was found covered in sheets, with his head wrapped in a black plastic bag. Handcuffs and rope were used to drag the man into the bedroom, police said.

Mejias told investigators her 65-year-old grandfather had a history of barging into the bathroom her girlfriend was in and repeatedly making inappropriate remarks, police said.

Although she's angry at her daughter, Mejias' mother said she still loves her.

Chene Mejias is due back in court May 8.
