Woman allegedly steals $78K from elderly relative

A 23-year-old Easton woman is facing charges of misapplication of entrusted property and theft by failure to make a required disposition of property. This comes in connection with funds she allegedly stole from an 86-year-old great aunt under her legal guardianship.

Officials say Deanna Attinello was appointed by the court in January 2017 to be her great aunt's legal guardian, after her aunt was diagnosed with dementia and admitted to a long-term care facility. Attinello was given access to the woman's financial assets to pay for her care in the facility in Warren Township, New Jersey.

Prosecutors say Attinello began withdrawing large amounts of cash from her aunt's account and writing checks to herself and others. Within a couple of months she drained over $77,000.
