Woman believes bank gave her $999 billion, transfers funds

HANOVER TWP., Pa. - A Lehigh County woman transferred $5,000 of non-existent funds from her First Commonwealth Federal Credit Union account to her Wells Fargo account.

According to police records, Jessica Santmyer, 23, of Whitehall Township, told officials she checked her First Commonwealth account and "saw there was a lot of nines" and believed the bank gave her $999 billion.

Therefore, she transferred $5,000 to her Wells Fargo account to see what would happen. Santmyer told police the transaction was successful within two days. She also stated she knew she didn't have that money and thought it was a bank error.

Police gave Santmyer the opportunity to reimburse First Commonwealth but she has yet to do so.

Santmyer is facing charges of theft, and her preliminary hearing is set for November 14. Bail is set at $10,000 unsecured.
