Woman celebrates 103rd birthday by speaking with students

ALLENTOWN, Pa. - A Lehigh Valley woman is passing along more than 100 years of wisdom to a younger generation.

Students at William Allen High School wrote letters to Esther Groller, inviting her to come speak to their class, and Friday -- on her 103rd birthday -- she did just that.

Esther told the class what it was like growing up in Jim Thorpe, Carbon Co., decades ago. She said she had to walk miles and take a rowboat just to get to school.

Esther also shared her secret to living a long life.

"Well, to be 103, like I said, drink black coffee, no smoking and no drinking," she said.

Esther also told the students that it's important for them to obey their parents and do as they're told.
