Woman engaged in more than just a game

Bethlehem resident says 'yes' to unexpected gift

Bethlehem native Reve Anderko went to the Flyers-Rangers game last Thursday with her parents not knowing her life would change forever.

During an intermission, the Flyers approached Anderko about being a part of a rinkside promotional game.

"They said you may be asked some questions but they shouldn't be too hard," Anderko said.

Little did she know, she'd be asked one of the most important questions of her life.

"She had no idea that I was coming home," said 1st Lt. Daniel Vorsky of the U.S. Army.

Vorsky, Anderko's boyfriend of nearly two years, had been deployed in South Korea for the last six months and was not expected to return for another six months. But he was granted leave.

"Before I went overseas, I worked a little bit with the Flyers. [They] thought it would be a good idea," he said.

The idea was to surprise Anderko and propose to her at a game. Vorsky, who worked with Anderko's dad, Tom Anderko of Musselman Jewelers in Bethlehem, created the perfect ring. Then, the opportunity came as Anderko was playing the promotional game and the host shifted the focus to 1st Lt. Vorsky.

Daniel appeared on the jumbotron with a message saying he missed Reve. The host then told her to turn around to see a gift Daniel had for her.

"I was just so happy to see him. I missed him so much," Anderko said. "I was just speechless at that point because it was nothing that I was really expecting."

What Anderko can expect now is a wedding and hopefully countless more happy memories.

"It's definitely a moment we'll never forget," Anderko said.
