Local driver dies in Maryland racetrack crash

BETHLEHEM TWP., Pa. - A Northampton County man died in a crash at a Maryland racetrack Sunday afternoon.

According to officials, 48-year-old Lamont Akins-Freeman was racing his 1971 Plymouth Duster in a race at the Maryland International Raceway in Mechanicsville.

After crossing the finish line, Freeman lost control, hit a barrier and was ejected from his car, officials said.

The accident happened around 12:20 p.m.

Akins-Freeman, of Bethlehem Township, was declared dead at the scene.
