Man, 73, struck by car, killed while walking to mailbox

GREENWICH TWP., Pa. - A man was struck by a car and killed while walking across the street to his mailbox early Wednesday morning, police said.

Ferdinand Jacker was hit by the car in front of his house at 1231 Old Route 22 in Greenwich Twp., Berks Co., around 4:45 a.m., state police said.

Jacker, 73, died at the scene. The driver of the car was not injured.

Old Route 22 was shut down for several hours while state police investigators reconstructed the accident.

They will present the evidence they gathered to the Berks County District Attorney's office to determine whether charges are warranted, state police said.
