Man, 76, killed when car goes off Route 419, hits tree in Tulpehocken

TULPEHOCKEN TWP., Pa. - A man was killed Friday when his car went off the road and struck a tree, officials said.

The accident was reported around 11:15 a.m. in the 5100 block of Route 419 in Tulpehocken Twp., Berks Co.

Edwin Mengel Jr. was behind the wheel of a car when it went off the road around a curve and struck a tree in front of a home, said police.

Mengel, 76, of Robesonia, died at the scene. No one else was in the car.

Route 419 was closed for about two hours.
