Man charged with Walnutport burglary

WALNUTPORT, Pa - A man helped police get a handle on an attempted  break- ins at a pizzeria and a burglary at an auto repair and tire shop shop, officials said.

Allen D. Miller was found at the rear of Valley Pizza Family Restaurant,  502 Main St., Walnutport, Northampton Co., with a metal garden shovel he used to try to pry open a door around 11:40 p.m. Wednesday, officials said.

Miller also was linked to a break-in that happened short time before at the Blue Ridge Services Center, 308 South Best Ave., Walnutport, about a quarter-mile away from the pizza shop, officials said.

Police began investigating when a burglar alarm sounded at the Blue Ridge Services Center after a side door had been kicked in, officials said.

Miller eventually admitted to the crimes, officials noted.

Miller, 21, of 22 Main St., Walnutport, was arraigned on charges of burglary, attempted burglary and possessing an instrument of crime and committed to the Northampton County Prison on$15,000 bail, according to court documents.

A preliminary hearing is set for 9 a.m. Aug. 13.
