Man, wife die in fire that destroys home in Middletown

2 killed in Bucks fire

MIDDLETOWN TWP., Pa. - Two people died when fire tore through their house in Bucks County on Tuesday night.

Flames broke out around 8:10 p.m. at 365 Elmwood Ave. in Middletown Township.

A 66-year-old man and a 65-year-old woman, Raymond and Caroline Jenkins, who are husband and wife, were killed in the fire, said police.

Firefighters managed to extinguish the fire in about 2-1/2 hours, but not before the house was destroyed.

Officials said there were no working smoke detectors in the home.

Officials said the fire started in the basement.

The cause of the fire is being investigated by the Middletown Township Fire Marshal's Office, Pennsylvania State Police Fire Marshal, and Middletown Police Department.
