NCC Monroe campus opens

POCONO TWP., Pa. - Northampton Community College is celebrating the grand opening of its brand-new $72-million campus in Monroe County.

Tuesday the college welcomed students to the new campus in Pocono Township.

College officials say the new campus will be able to accommodate 5,000 students, more than double the number of students the college was able to serve at the old Monroe campus in Tannersville.

Officials say the new campus features state-of-the-art learning facilities as well as a child care center, food court, athletic field and other amenities.

"There's so much energy; there's so much vibrancy on campus with the students and their parents and the faculty, and the interactions that are going on. It's just a very incredible and exciting day," said Monroe Campus Dean Matt Connell.

As for the old Monroe campus in Tannersville, college officials say they plan to sell it.
