Nearly 100 vehicles involved in pair of wrecks in Chester, Berks counties

Violent wrecks in snowstorm

Nearly 100 vehicles were involved in a pair of wrecks in Chester and Berks counties Sunday afternoon.

Around 12:30 p.m., one person was killed in an accident that involved at least 56 vehicles on the Pennsylvania Turnpike.

It happened on the westbound side of the turnpike, between the Morgantown exit and Route 82.

The westbound side of the Turnpike between Morgantown and Downingtown was closed.

Police say the damage to the vehicles was done by fender-benders or spin-out-type accidents.

Several tractor-trailers and at least one boat were damaged.

Another large-scale wreck happened after 4 p.m. in Berks County.

Crews in Berks County have their hands full in an accident that has closed I-78 west near the Hamburg exit.

We're told at least 30 vehicles were involved.
