ROSS TWP., Pa. - Now imagine being a person who worked alongside some of the victims and responding to the shooting firsthand.
That's the situation Dave LaBar was in last night.
LaBar is on the Ross Township Planning Commission.
He says he is in the building where the shooting took place once a month and knows he could have been in there last night.
"Very nerve racking," said LaBar. "Chaotic, awful tragedy."
Words Dave LaBar thinks about the fatal shooting that took place across the street from his home at the Ross Township Municipal Building.
"I?m on the planning commission," added LaBar. "I?m over there once a month for meetings, and I have to seriously think about."
He didn't think about that Monday night.
LaBar ran down his driveway and started to help victims shot by Rockne Newell.
"I helped a woman do CPR on one of the victims and I helped comfort one of the other victims until police and ambulance arrived," he said.
Unfortunately one of the people LaBar was trying to help save later died.
He says he heard a dozen shots.
"You don't think things like this would happen in this rural setting that we have here, but it really brings it close to home," said LaBar.
Now this community has to figure out a way to heal.
"It was a nightmare, added LaBar. "It was horrible. Why [do] people do things like that."
LaBar says he didn't know the shooter, but has driven by his home several times.
