He narrowly defeated computer consultant Richard Pezzullo on Tuesday. Pezzullo has scheduled a news conference in Freehold today after saying last night he would not concede until all provisional, mail-in and military ballots are counted.

The other two Republicans running in the low-budget primary were concrete contractor Brian Goldberg and business professor Murray Sabrin.

Bell will face incumbent Democrat Cory Booker in the fall. Booker is considered a heavy favorite.

The last Republican elected to the U.S. Senate from New Jersey was Clifford Case, who served four terms before losing a primary in 1978. Bell was the candidate who defeated him.
