Rachel Ziegler has been going to Seaside Heights every summer for as long as she can remember. When she turned on the television on Thursday and saw the boardwalk that she loves in flames, she said all she could do was cry.
"I'm speechless, I'm devastated. You think the hurricane was enough, then you see it all in flames. It's horrible. There's no words," Ziegler said.
Ziegler says she woke up Friday morning and put on her "Restore the Shore" sweatshirt with a heavy heart. She has gone to Seaside Heights every summer with her family, and continues the tradition with her eight-year-old daughter.
Just a few weeks ago, Ziegler and her family ate at places like 3 Brothers Pizza and Kohr Brothers Frozen Custard; both in the five block portion of the boardwalk burned in the massive fire.
Rachel is optimistic that Seaside will rebuild once again: "I think they will, you know, they're Jersey strong. They're great people. [...] I'm praying for them and my heart goes out to them; and just because we're not in New Jersey, that doesn't mean we aren't thinking about them," Ziegler said.
