Top aide for New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie: I knew nothing of bridge plot

TRENTON, N.J. - The highest-ranking aide to New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie to testify before lawmakers about the traffic jam plot that has ensnared the administration said he doesn't know who ordered the scheme or why.

The aide, Chief of Staff Kevin O'Dowd, also told the panel Monday he had no role in the political retribution plot, which caused massive gridlock in September.

O'Dowd also testified that Christie recognized that the scandal had become a "major distraction" by mid-December, the day before he announced that no one on his staff or campaign had anything to do with it.

The scandal has threatened the presidential ambitions of Christie, considered a top contender if he decides to run in 2016. He has denied advance knowledge of the scheme.
