Newark NJ man charged with 18 counts of forgery and identity theft, police say

STROUDSBURG, Pa. - Police say "indicators of criminal activity" led them to search a vehicle which was stopped on I-80 early Thursday morning. The search yielded over a dozen fake driver's licenses, according to police.

Police said Tyler Christian Ellis, 27, of Newark, NJ was pulled over in Stroudsburg Borough, Monroe County for a speeding violation. The police investigation lead to a consent search of Ellis' vehicle.

After searching, Troopers found 18 drivers licenses from seven difference states. 15 of these contained Ellis' photograph. The three other licenses were discovered from two states, with the same woman's photograph. A small amount of marijuana was also found in Ellis's car.

Ellis was brought up on a slew of charges including drug possession, summary traffic violations, and 18 counts of forgery, tampering with records or identification, identity theft and possessing instruments of a crime.

Ellis was placed in the Monroe County Correctional Facility in lieu of $50,000.00 bail.
