Corbett goes on road to promote proposed budget
Pa. Gov. Tom Corbett laid out his budget plan Tuesday and then hit the road to promote it.
After stops in Northumberland and Lancaster counties, the governor paid a visit to the 69 News studios near Allentown on Friday.
Corbett is trying to sell the fact that his plan will create jobs for the commonwealth.
It was the first topic they dove into at a taping of 'Business Matters.' Corbett said he is leaving taxes alone in his 2012 budget proposal and focusing on cuts.
"It was absolutely necessary," explained Corbett. "Either that or continue to increase the burdens on the average citizen across Pennsylvania, and we chose not to do that."
Corbett also touched on other hot topics during the 28-minute interview with Tony Iannelli, including the Republican presidential hopefuls.
"They have all supported me in my election bid back in 2012, and I have not endorsed anybody at this point."
The legislative map flap that has lawmakers using 2001 districts for the time being was also discussed.
"I think that's unconstitutional," said Corbett.
When asked about other long-running issues like Marcellus Shale, Corbett said the bill is "one of the toughest in the country" on how it deals with the environmental impact, and he plans to sign it in the next few days.
Following the taping at the WFMZ studios, the governor went on a tour of Lehigh Valley Plastics in Bethlehem. He highlighted the local company as an example of innovation that the government needs to support in order to bring more jobs to the state.
"What we can do in the government sector is create the climate for you to grow the jobs here in Pennsylvania," he said.
