State senators Pat Browne, Vincent Hughes named to leadership roles
Two state senators from our area have been named to leadership positions for the upcoming 2013-14 legislative session .
State senate Republicans Wednesday re-elected Sen. Pat Browne (R-Lehigh/Northampton/Monroe) to his second term as Majority Caucus Whip.
Senator Browne’s duties include acting as assistant floor leader, working to gain support for legislation and assuring that Republican policies and strategies are maintained through the cooperative efforts of the majority caucus.
“I sincerely appreciate the support of my colleagues and look forward to continuing to work alongside Majority Leader Dominic Pileggi and the rest of the Senate Republican Caucus leadership team to promote a legislative agenda that supports Pennsylvania’s working families and promotes real economic development and job creation,” said Senator Browne. “I am proud of the accomplishments and successes that Senate Republicans achieved over the past few years. We must continue to work with our colleagues in the House and the Governor to focus the Commonwealth’s efforts and resources on enhancing the quality of life for all Pennsylvanians now and into the future.”
On the Democrats' side, State Sen. Vincent Hughes (D-Phila./Montgomery) has been reelected to serve as Democratic Chairman of the state Senate Appropriations Committee.
“I am honored that my colleagues have once again chosen me to serve as Democratic Chairman of the Appropriations Committee,” Hughes said. “My Democratic colleagues have trusted me to lead them on appropriations and budget issues and that is very humbling. I am very appreciative and anxious to move the caucus agenda forward in the next session.”
The Appropriations Committee is charged with the consideration of legislation that determines how state dollars are budgeted and spent. It is one of the most influential committees in the General Assembly.
