2nd suspect charged in armed robbery of convenience store in Reading
A second man has been charged for his alleged role in the armed robbery of a convenience store in Reading last month.
Curtis Gaskin admitted to police that he was one of two men who robbed the Citi Mart in the 1700 block of Cotton Street on Dec. 17, according to court documents.
The other suspect, Stevin Freeman, was charged Wednesday. Freeman, 19, police said, was armed with a baseball bat, which he used to smash a coin game machine, the cash register and other items on the store's counter.
The men took a $100 bill and about $2 in change from the game machine before fleeing the store, police said.
Surveillance video revealed that both men, along with a third man, were inside the store the day before, playing the same coin game that was smashed during the robbery, according to court documents.
The third man stayed outside the store during the holdup, police said. He has not been charged.
Gaskin, 19, was committed to the Berks County Jail on $20,000 bail. Freeman is being held there on $40,000 bail.
