Al Boscov is the first inductee into the Pennsylvania Retailers Association Hall of Fame. Thursday night at the Crowne Plaza in Wyomissing he was honored by Governors from both political parties and hundreds of others.

Retailers recognized Al Boscov as a successful businessman, but more importantly for his service to the community.

Al Boscov is small in stature, but has a big heart. And he's so important two Governors decided to keep him safe.

"We're security," said Pennsylvania Governor Tom Corbett (R).

Corbett stood on one side of Boscov and former Governor Ed Rendell (D) was on the other side. And Boscov credited them for sending millions of dollars in economic development to Reading.

"It would never happen, these two guys have made it possible for us to see a revitalization for Reading," said Boscov, "And I'm glad they're with me tonight because it gives me a chance not only to thank them but to hug em. And they deserve that."

Boscov was modest as usual, Rendell made sure credit was given to Boscov.

"No one's done more. Mayors come and go, council members come and go, governors come and go but Al has been there," said Rendell, "And I'm sure Governor Corbett would agree with me. He knows exactly how to whine and whittle money out of governors for the city of Reading."

When the awards dinner started Ed Rendell said to the crowd, "Over the years while I was governor I learned one thing about Al, there's no better beggar in the world."

Rendell also shared a poem he wrote in Boscov's honor.

"There's nothing he won't try that's why we love him this incredible guy. He's height has always been a target of many a jest. But when there's trouble at standing tall he's the very best."

When Governor Corbett spoke he referred to a question Al Boscov answered in the hallway-- what do you want your legacy to be?

"I think I would like my father to be proud of me. I think that will be a nice legacy," said Boscov, "My father was a great guy, wanted to do a lot for the city and I'm glad I could help."

"You said well I hope my father thought I did a good job, " said Corbett looking at Boscov from the podium, "I think he did. Don’t you?" The applause from the standing crowd of over 600 people was the answer.
