Analyst delivers economic forecast for Berks County

An analyst says the economy is gradually improving in Berks County.

About 350 members of the Greater Reading Chamber of Commerce gathered to hear the economic forecast Wednesday morning at the Stokesay Castle.

Berks County is in pretty good shape because its home prices didn't plunge as far as they did in other parts of the country when the housing bubble burst.

"Things are still picking up. Employment growth, we'd like to see it a little bit stronger, but you know, for the most part, businesses are adding to payrolls in the Reading area and that's having a modest positive effect on the outlook," said Tim Quinlan.

Officials said one reason businesses aren't hiring more or giving raises is because of the federal government's inability to pass a budget.
