The Reading Railroad is returning. This time, it'll transport art throughout the region.

"Reading Arts in Local-Motion," or "RAiL," is taking empty boxcars in the area and giving artists the chance to transform the cars into art.

Organizers said they plan to start the project this fall and end in December to coincide with the Reading Railroad's founding in the early 1800s.

"It's really exciting to see the people in a Reading Railroad car after all these years," said Santo Marabella, organizer.

The second phase of the program will allow performing artists and filmmakers to create and adapt theater and film to the rail car venues.

Organizers said their goal is to bring art to parts of Berks County where it's not easily accessible.
