Berks judge introduced to US Senate Judiciary Committee
Jeffrey Schmehl nominated by president for seat on federal bench
A judge from Berks County was introduced Wednesday to the U.S. Senate Judiciary Committee in Washington.
"As you've heard, Judge [Jeffrey] Schmehl is a well-respected judge who brings a keen intellect and breadth of experience to the federal court," U.S. Sen. Pat Toomey, R-Pa., told the committee.
Toomey and U.S. Sen. Bob Casey, D-Pa., introduced President Obama's three nominees for district judge in the Eastern District of Pennsylvania.
Schmehl is one of the judges chosen to fill a seat on the federal bench. The others are Nitza QuiƱones Alejandro and Luis Felipe Restrepo.
The Senate Judiciary Committee will question the nominees before deciding whether to send their nominations to the full Senate for a vote.
