Broken fridge can't stop church from serving lunch
Greater Berks Food Bank put together bagged lunches
The "soup's on" at a soup kitchen in Reading, despite a broken fridge.
The New Journey United Methodist Church on South 6th Street served bagged lunches instead of its usual fare on Friday.
A refrigerator at the church's soup kitchen is broken and won't be fixed until next week.
The church feared it would have to hold off on serving food until then, but members of the Greater Berks Food Bank stepped up to the plate and put together the lunches.
"We felt that we couldn't just sit in our office and do nothing. We know that people rely on this meal that this church provides all year long," said Peg Bianca, Greater Berks Food Bank.
The bagged lunches will also be handed out next Monday and Tuesday.
