Chase Utley makes rehab appearance in Reading
Phillies second baseman Chase Utley was in Reading Wednesday night to rehab his injury. He suited up with the Fightin Phils and fans couldn't have been happier.
It was a great night for baseball. No rain and Chase Utley was on this field.
It was the field of their dreams for Phillies fans. Chase Utley was at FirstEnergy Stadium. Warming up, Utley was dressed like all the Fightin Phils but didn't have a number. Fans were watching and waiting to see what the injured player with a strained right oblique would do.
"It worries me man. I think it's going to be a nagging injury," said Dylan Smith.
"Especially you know with your oblique. You're twisting that every time you swing a bat," said Brian Phillippi.
Phillippi and Smith hoped Utley's time in Reading pays off.
"If he can come back healthy they can have the whole starting line up back they have a good shot at the wild card," said Smith.
Babies and fans of all ages just wanted to get a chance to meet the man who hasn't been to Reading since 2007.
"I was here that game too," said Rob Mest.
Mest a Fightin Phils season ticket holder has a plan.
"Some pictures of him fielding, maybe a couple pictures hitting, a little collage thing for the basement," said Mest.
"Number 23, there he goes," said Linda Adam from the stands as Utley walked out onto the field.
He delivered at second base.
"He'll get a hit tonight," said Adam, "He'll keep the crowd in suspense. I know he will."
It was suspenseful. His first at bat was a pop up fly ball into outfield.
"I want to see him get a hit and hit the ball out of the park," said Adam.
Injured or not they want their Phillies' 26 to show why he is so popular.
The Fightin Phils learned of Utley's rehab Wednesday morning. No official word if he'll be suited up again with the Fightins for their next game Thursday night.
