A cyclist is on the mend after being beaten and stabbed on the Thun Trail. Reading Police said a gang of kids was responsible.

Police said anywhere from 10 to 15 kids were involved in the beating and stabbing of a cyclist on the Thun Trail. He was able to get away. And police said he was lucky.

Sean Rotkiske's wounds were still fresh Sunday afternoon.

"Somebody struck me in my left ear," said Rotkiske.

His ear looked bad, but his back looked worse. He said how he got those injuries was a blur.

"So, I turned my head down to keep my light out of their eyes," said Rotkiske, "I was trying to be polite and when I got to the center of the group that's the last thing I remember."

It was just before midnight Saturday on the Thun Trail near RACC and Rotkiske's friend was further ahead.

"I don't really remember much after that," said Rotkiske, "My friend told me that when he next saw me I was running down the path holding my bike saying they jacked me up."

They were able to fix his bike, but they had to go to the hospital to fix him.

"When we got to the road you could see blood coming through my clothes," said Rotkiske, "And I raised my arm and he saw the cut through my riding coat."

"He's really lucky in my opinion that he wasn't injured any worse," said Captain Damond Kloc of the Reading Police.

Reading police are investigating.

"What are kids doing out at 11 o'clock at night walking the trail?" said Kloc.

Kloc said they are making progress in this investigation. They are looking for the 10 to 15 kids involved.

"We need to find out who actually injured this cyclist," said Kloc, "That's obviously our primary focus."

This is the third attack on the Thun Trail in the last year. But Rotkiske said he's still going to ride it.

"If guys like us aren't on that trail then it just becomes even more unsafe," said Rotkiske.

Police said at the very least the person responsible for hurting the cyclist is facing aggravated assault charges.
