A district judge in the Cumru Township area is stepping away from the bench.

Judge Nicholas Bentz, Junior is retiring Wednesday, on 12-12-12.

His staff surprised him by throwing him a party Tuesday.

Bentz said he's enjoyed helping people over the years.

"Best experience is being able to help somebody and the youth in the community and stuff like that. Try to set them on a straight path," Bentz said.

He said he's looking forward to camping and traveling.

He'll also pick up some work as a senior judge.
