EXETER TWP., Pa. -

As officials brace for the worse in Oklahoma, one of Berks County's own is planning to head over to the region to offer emotional support.

Peter Warschal is a volunteer professional counselor for the Berks Chapter of the American Red Cross.

Warschal is expected to be on the ground in Shawnee, Oklahoma, Saturday, assisting devastated families with emotional support.

"When you empathize in a situation, how would you feel when you lost your home, or when your loved one, you would probably be looking for someone to help you out, and that's what the Red Cross does," said Warschal.

He says he could be in Oklahoma for about least three weeks, and he will be helping facing families who have been severely traumatized.

For emotional preparation, he says he gets support from his family.

"I talk to my wife. She's a licensed psychologist, and we debrief a little bit," Warschal said.

Peter's wife, Judy, has been to disaster zones before as a volunteer for the American Red Cross, and she says she couldn't be prouder of her husband.

"I think it's great that he's volunteering to do this. I'm very proud of him for taking the time out of his gardening and his work to devote to the people of Oklahoma," Judy said.

Peter will leave from Philadelphia International Airport Saturday, and travel to Atlanta first. There, they will re-evaluate if it's safe enough to head into Oklahoma City.
