Family of toddler who fell into pool, died speaks out
A heartbroken Berks County family opened up Tuesday after their little boy passed away from a tragic accident.
Andrew, only 20-months-old, was found in the swimming pool during a big family cookout Sunday afternoon in Spring Township.
Peter Budhu and Dian Raghoo described their son as an energetic bundle of joy, whose smile would always light up the room. Ragdoo called him, "mommy's little daredevil.
The adorable little boy would have turned two in September. He's the youngest of three children, who brought so much joy to the Budhu family, said his parents.
"Sometimes in life you get knocked down and get back up, but it feels like I've been knocked out," said Andrew's dad.
Peter Budhu and Raghoo were understandably distraught Tuesday. They told 69 News Andrew's tragic death has brought heartbreak to the entire family.
They were having a big Memorial Day weekend cookout Sunday at their home along Regency Drive. Family members drove down from New York.
Andrew's grandmother said she was giving him a bath, and everything after that was "absolute horror." Andrew went missing, and family members scrambled to find him. At first they thought he was upstairs playing with other kids. The family even checked under a blanket, one of his favorite hiding spots, but what happened next they said is every parent's worst nightmare.
Ragdoo found Andrew in the swimming pool and pulled him out of the water.
"I knew it was him because he was the only one wearing a yellow shirt," she said.
A neighbor nextdoor, who happens to be a nurse, heard screams and rushed over to help. She performed chest compressions, and when police and EMS arrived he was rushed to Reading Hospital. Then, Andrew was flown to the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia, where he passed away Monday evening.
"He's a beautiful child, liked to play. He don't like to cry, he liked to play," said Jagdeo Budhu, Andrew's grandfather.
Budhu described it as the worst feeling, but in their hearts they said they know their little boy's spirit is and always will be with them.
