Many have their own Fat Tuesday tradition, and it involves fastnachts.
Some folks make the doughy treats at home. Others pick them up at places like Hershey Harvest in Laureldale, Berks Co.
The owner said he expected to sell nearly 1,000 dozen fastnachts Monday and Tuesday. That means there's a lot of frying to do.
"We started Monday night at 2:00, and last night we started a midnight, and we fry two fryers constantly, straight through," said Bob Hershey, owner.
The store tries to have hot fastnachts available all day long because customers like them better when they're hot, Hershey said.
