Football fans stocking up on snacks for Super Bowl
Football fans are filling up on their favorite foods on Super Bowl Sunday.
The staff at places like the Reading Fairgrounds Farmers Market and Dino's Wings and Things in Muhlenberg Township said they have been preparing all week for customer orders of all kinds of treats, including football theme desserts and Super Bowl brats.
"It is a coarsely-ground fresh pork sausage with a blend of seasonings that we make here, our own recipe," said Melissa Snyder, owner of German Butcher Shop. "It's not real spicy, but it has a lot of great flavor."
"We look forward to it. It seems like a holiday with everyone coming out and eat and eat," said Elam Lantz, owner of Penn Dutch Poultry.
"It's our biggest day of the year," said Dino Iaccarino, owner of Dino's Wings & Things.
Super Bowl Sunday is the second largest food consumption day of the year. At the top of that list of foods are chicken wings.
"We'll go through between 11,000 and 14,000 wings on Sunday," said Iaccarino.
According to the National Chicken Council, Super Bowl weekend is the biggest time of the year for wings.
"The hardest thing is just getting everything out on time. We have people calling in all week long ahead of time making sure we don't run out," said Iaccarino.
During Super Bowl weekend, more than one billion wings are consumed. If chicken wings aren't your food of choice, there are plenty of other goodies you can find to munch on.
"Like carrots and vegetables," said Carmen DeAngelis, of Reading. "I'm on a diet, so I have to watch myself. I'd rather have pizza, coke, home fries, all that, but I can't. So I hope you do!"
