2 killed in fiery Berks crash
Two people died in a fiery crash in northern Berks County late Thursday night.
State police responded to the accident on Route 143 in Albany Township and found a vehicle on fire with two people inside.
The driver of a Dodge Dakota lost control while negotiating a turn on the wet road. The vehicle spun off the road and hit four trees before coming to rest.
At this time, police are still investigating the accident, but people who live nearby said speeding is common on these windy roads.
"I think you are kind of west of Allentown, you know, you are in the wild west sometimes out here. That is the mentality. So you do not have people maybe abiding by the speed limit at all times," said neighbor Rick Foulke.
In addition to the frequent bends in the road, Foulke said there are no street lights.
"I think that the problem is when you have people that come out here that maybe are not familiar with the roads. They are not from here," said Foulke.
Both the driver and the passenger died at the scene. The victims have not yet been identified.
