Two people are in the hospital after they were hit by a car early Sunday in Berks County.

The accident happened around 12:30 a.m. in the 200 block of Godfrey Street in Tulpehocken Twp.

Police said 58-year-old Rosemarie Swanwedel, and 48-year-old Richard Ryan, both of Hazleton, were walking along the street side of parked cars when they were hit by a car driven by 28-year-old Melodie Sensenig.

Sensenig told police she didn't see them and hit them. She was not hurt.

Swanwedel was flown to Reading Hospital and Ryan was taken there by ambulance, police said.

Both suffered major injuries in the accident.
