An accident involving a car that struck a utility pole in Berks County has knocked out electricity to 250 Met-Ed customers, prompting the early dismissal of schools in the Oley Valley School District.
The accident happened around 10 a.m. when a car went off Friedensburg Road in Oley Township, near the Berks Career and Technology Center's east campus, and struck a pole.
A woman was trapped in the car before she could be freed and taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, police said.
According to Met-Ed, 250 of its customers in Oley Township were without power as a result of the accident.
That prompted the Oley Valley elementary and middle schools to dismiss their students at 11:15 a.m.; the high school dismissed at 11:25.
Met-Ed said all power was restored by 6 p.m. The work took a little longer than normal because of the inclement weather.
