Judge Jeffrey Schmehl
WASHINGTON -

A judge from Berks County was introduced Wednesday to the U.S. Senate Judiciary Committee in Washington.

"As you've heard, Judge [Jeffrey] Schmehl is a well-respected judge who brings a keen intellect and breadth of experience to the federal court," U.S. Sen. Pat Toomey, R-Pa., told the committee.

Toomey and U.S. Sen. Bob Casey, D-Pa., introduced President Obama's three nominees for district judge in the Eastern District of Pennsylvania.

Schmehl is one of the judges chosen to fill a seat on the federal bench. The others are Nitza Qui├▒ones Alejandro and Luis Felipe Restrepo.

The Senate Judiciary Committee will question the nominees before deciding whether to send their nominations to the full Senate for a vote.
