Berks judge takes oath for seat on federal bench
Judge Jeffrey Schmehl took a moment to say thanks during a ceremonial swearing in at the Berks County Courthouse.
Schmehl thanked his family, Sen. Pat Toomey and Sen. Bob Casey and President Barack Obama.
In June, the Senate unanimously approved Schmehl to fill a vacant post on the federal bench in the Eastern District of Pennsylvania. He was nominated to the post in November.
Schmehl had been Berks County's president judge since 2008.
