Body identified in Reading shooting, police searching for answers
Reading Police are searching for suspects in a killing so brazen, it happened right next to a District Judge's office.
Authorities said the victim is Janzir J. Antoine, 19, of Reading and friends said he recently graduated from Reading High School.
A rosary and candles now sit at 10th and Perry streets, scene of Reading's latest deadly shooting.
"He was a good friend, and I don't know why people would want to do this," said friend Margarita Sims through tears.
Neighbors discovered the body right outside Judge Thomas Xavios' office around 8 p.m. Friday. According to police, Antoine was shot in the chest.
"He was a fun person, like it was just -- this is so real," said Shantel Sims, another friend who visited the shooting scene Saturday. "It's crazy."
Sims said she knew the victim since childhood.
Police are releasing few details about possible suspects. They went house-to-house Friday night looking for information.
"It was probably random," she said. "He wasn't a bad person."
The killing is Reading's tenth this year. For Margarita Sims, it's also the third friend she's lost to the city's streets in a year.
"It's not surprising to me, but it hurts to see another one go," she said. "Just scared to see who's going to go next."
The coroner said the manner of death was homicide. The autopsy on Antoine was performed Saturday night. Reading Police did not return calls for additional information Saturday.
