A Lehigh County man will spend the rest of his life behind bars for the 2007 murder of a woman in Laureldale.

A Berks County judge Wednesday sentenced Cory Vankeuren to life in prison without the possibility of parole for the deadly shooting of Audrey Giannotti.

The same judge last week found Vankeuren, 37, guilty of first degree murder in a short, non-jury trial. The conviction carried an automatic life sentence.

Vankeuren shot and killed Giannotti, 20, as she slept with her two young children inside a home she shared with her aunt and uncle on Earl Street in Laureldale in January 2007. The children were not physically harmed.

The case was cold for four years until Vankeuren was arrested at the home he shared with his sister in Emmaus, Lehigh Co., in 2011.
