East Penn Manufacturing Co. Inc. has been recognized by the Pennsylvania
Environmental Council as a recipient of the 2013 Governor’s Award for Environmental Excellence.
The awards highlight the best in environmental innovation and expertise throughout the state, said company officials, adding that the honor was given to East Penn for the Berks County-based company's advanced battery energy storage system demonstration.
"This project clearly demonstrates the ability of UltraBattery technology, integrated with Ecoult’s complete energy storage solution, to enhance the reliability and efficiency of the electrical grid," said Sally Miksiewicz, East Penn CEO. "As we embrace the utilization of advanced energy storage systems and its role in helping to conserve energy, we will make significant strides toward managing energy in a cleaner, more efficient way.”
The project is currently providing ancillary services to the Pennsylvania-Jersey-
Maryland (PJM) Interconnection, the largest regional transmission
organization/independent system operator in the U.S., officials said.
