Fightin Phils scoreboard undergoes $1 million facelift
30-foot by 60-foot display in center field to be largest in Double-A baseball
Work is now under way to make the upcoming season at FirstEnergy Stadium bigger and brighter than ever.
With just 45 days to go until the home opener, crews have begun work to remove the old video board behind the outfield wall. It's being replaced with a new board that the Fightin Phils said will be the biggest among all the teams in Double-A baseball, measuring 30 feet high by 60 feet wide and displaying video in high-definition.
"A combination of size and the latest HD10 technology will provide Baseballtown the clearest picture of any board in the minors," said Scott Hunsicker, general manager of the Fightin Phils.
The team partnered with Dallas-based TS Sports to design and install the new board, which is part of an overall $1 million multimedia video project being undertaken at FirstEnergy Stadium during the off-season.
The new video board in center field will be paired with a six-foot high by 100-foot wide ribbon board, which will be positioned above the deck in left field. In addition to video, the ribbon board will display the game's line score and out-of-town scores.
"With the inclusion of the ribbon board in left field... the fan experience at FirstEnergy Stadium will be second to none in Minor League Baseball," said Hunsicker.
The project also includes a four-foot by eight-foot video board above the stage behind the right field grandstand and 25 flat-screen TVs throughout the ballpark.
"Fans that pass the stage during the game won't have to worry about missing out any game action since the stage video board will mirror that of the new HD10 board in center field," said Hunsicker. "It also made perfect sense to add 25 HD televisions throughout the ballpark since we are going to be able to do things from a video standpoint that has never been done in Reading."
Behind the scenes, the Fightins will be taking advantage of the new video display opportunities by upgrading their production capabilities with enhanced high-definition cameras and improved wireless camera connectivity.
