A Reading firefighter and EMT is being honored for helping to save a life.

Our cameras were at the Reading Health System's Dinner and Learn EMT program Wednesday night where Jason Batz was recognized.

Batz recently came to the aid of a 37-year-old woman who suddenly collapsed and went into cardiac arrest.

When he arrived at the scene he took over CPR and used a defibrillator -- saving the woman's life.

"I don't like to think of it as anything out of the ordinary," said Batz. "I like to think that we all performed well as a team and that we did a good job."

Batz says the woman was conscious and alert by the time the ambulance arrived at the hospital.

Doctors say if he and the other firefighters wouldn't have been there the woman never would have survived.
