Jynx up for national award as K9 hero; votes taken online
He's already considered a hero by many in Berks County, but now, Jynx the dog is up for some national recognition.
Jynx, the K9 partner of Deputy Kyle Pagerly, has been nominated for a 2012 American Humane Association Hero Dog Award. Votes can be cast online now through June 30.
The award-winning dogs will be honored at a gala in Hollywood on Oct. 6.
Pagerly, a deputy with the Berks County Sheriff's Department, was shot and killed while attempting to apprehend a suspect in a wooded area of Albany Township last June.
Jynx attempted to pull his partner out of harm's way while alerting other officers to the danger presented by the armed suspect, who was also killed in the exchange of gunfire.
If it had not have been for Jynx's actions, officials said many other officers would have lost their lives that night.
Jynx has since retired from official duty; however, he continues to make public appearances on behalf of the sheriff's department. He also has his own Facebook page.
