Laureldale woman, Tunya Lewis, faces DUI charges in wreck that injured 5 kids

READING, Pa. -

A Berks County woman is facing DUI charges after an accident that injured five children in Reading.

Charges were filed Thursday against Tunya Lewis, 40, of 1511 Queen St. in Laureldale.

The accident, which happened around 11:45 p.m. on April 7 on the Warren Street Bypass in Reading, sent five children to the hospital.

Lewis' three daughters and a niece were taken to Reading Hospital, and one of the girls was ejected from the minivan.

Lewis' son was flown to the University of Pennsylvania Hospital with head injuries.

None of the children's injuries was life-threatening, according to officials.

Lewis' blood alcohol concentration registered at 0.11. She faces charges of aggravated assault by vehicle while driving under the influence, reckless driving,  DUI, recklessly endangering another person and careless driving. Bail was set at $25,000.
