A man armed with a gun created tense moments for customers and employees inside a convenience store in Berks County on Friday.

The holdup happened shortly before 12:30 p.m. at the Turkey Hill at 3701 Kutztown Rd. in Laureldale.

The gunman, police said, first robbed a customer who had just bought lottery tickets inside the store. He then ordered her to walk with him behind the counter, where he forced an employee to open the store safe at gunpoint, police said.

The robber was initially described as a young Hispanic man with a mustache and beard who stands between 5 feet, 2 inches and 5 feet, 5 inches tall and weighs 130 pounds. He was approximately 25 years of age.

The description of the robber matches that of a man who robbed a Turkey Hill at 2001 Kutztown Rd. in Reading early Friday morning, police said.
